We’re again among the beautiful nature of Slovenia, but this time we are moving a little further away from Bled… One of our afternoon walks took us to the foot of Spik peak to visit the Martuljek waterfalls, one of the most beautiful in the Julian Alps. Well, we only visited the lower waterfall, but it’s still something!
Where is located and how to get there
Martuljek Waterfalls are located in the most northwestern part of Slovenia and are closer to Kranjska Gora (5 km) than to Bled (35 km). With the visit to Pericnik waterfall we were significantly closer to them and decided to visit them! Traveling from Bled, you can use the village of Gozd Martuljek for navigation. I also give you the exact location – HERE. The parking lot is equipped with chemical toilets, a waste container and an information board for the various routes in the area.
Beautiful landscapes
Fabulous nature! That’s what greeted us as we got out of the car. We could spend hours contemplating the beautiful landscapes towards the green areas and the high mountain peaks in the background… And my favorite photo is of the winding road, which seems to be dancing with happiness, that it’s located right on these alpine meadows…
On the path
The hike begins with crossing a wooded area around the river. At times you can step out of the beaten path and walk a little to the water. You will pass an herb garden with inscribed signs and after 15 minutes of walking you will reach a fork. There you have to decide which of the two paths to take… The right one continues to climb into the forest, and the left one, which we chose, follows the riverbed.
A wooden bridge takes us to the opposite shore, and an artificially created waterfall suggests that the river are abounding in water and most likely spectacular views await us! Although we haven’t met absolutely no one so far, the signs for Martuljek waterfalls tell us that we are on the right track…
From the gorge of the river
This is the most beautiful option to reach the lower waterfall! The walk through the gorge of the river Martuljek is easy, but in some places the path passes literally to the sheer cliffs and it is good to watch out for falling stones… The water has made its way through strange and picturesque places that are pleasing to the eye. At times he manages to be seen and views of the impressive mountain peaks…
Lower Martuljek Waterfall
The pleasant walk along the gorge lasted no more than 20 minutes to find ourselves on a wooden bridge with frontal views of the beautiful waterfall! The highest and largest falls are subsequently divides into several smaller ones, and its flooded waters help to create this majestic view…
The route to the upper waterfall continues forward, where you reach the steep path through the forest, which I mentioned to you. The distance to it’s around 50 minutes in one direction. It was already quite late in the afternoon and we didn’t have enough time to continue to him…
For a final
The natural area around the Martuljek waterfalls is part of the Triglav National Park and is a wonderful tourist destination! The whole route to the lower waterfall and the return to the parking lot took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes and is extremely easy, which makes it perfect for families with young children. The road to the upper waterfall is much steeper and longer, but even in its short version without it, the walk is worth it… And even just because of this beautiful view from the parking lot, which we can enjoy for the last time before heading back to Bled…
