Yeah… The Sunday walks… To escape from the big city noise and give yourself a break among the nature… A great idea for an easy escape from Sofia is the small but very lovely Vrabchanski Waterfall!
How to get there?
We are heading to the town of Tran! It is located 80 km from Sofia. About 5 km before the town there is a road diversion to the village of Vrabcha. This is the place, where it should turn right for the waterfall. It will follow a slight climb up a narrow road… And just before the first houses of the village there is a turn for Vrabchanski Waterfall – to the left of the main road. In addition to the panoramic views of the village, you will also see an information board for the Greben Mountain and the passage to Bankya village through Stakyov Kamik peak. We could not reach it, we were satisfied only with the waterfall… And from the mantel there is a plaque, indicating the direction to the beautiful waterfall.
On the path…
The path is a descent into the ravine towards the waterfall. It certainly can’t be called difficult… The distance is short, around 10-15 minutes. There are even stairs in places for ease of passage. From the very beginning you can see clearly the nearby valley and the beautiful rock above the waterfall. It is often used for rock climbing because of its sheer shape. And high up there is a cave with three entrances, about 50 meters long…
And Vrabchanski waterfall itself…
Here it is… Small but very charming! You will surely see higher waterfalls, it is only 4 meters high… But the Vrabchanska River made its way through the limestone cliffs and there is a very beautiful gorge. And there are seating tables and a barbecue by the waterfall. A wonderful choice for a nature outing. A local resident of the village, Grandpa Vlado, took over the refinement of the place. Thanks to his efforts, the area around the waterfall today is extremely welcoming and attracts many visitors. We were also lucky to see him on our visit. His greyish hair doesn’t in any way stop the enthusiasm with which he maintains the beautiful countryside…
